There is not a single attribute, or for that matter even a set of a few attributes, which makes a car a success in the market. It is more complicated than that. Buyers evaluate and assess what would they get in return for the money that they would be investing in buying the car. They would be satisfied if what they acquire is commensurate with and justified by the price that they would pay. Chevrolet Cavalier has been successful in the market for a decade because the customers felt they were getting value for their money. Considering it has been more than a hundred years since the car was invented one wonders how come reliability is still a selling point. Surely one would expect that after all these years of technical developments all cars would be completely reliable by now. There are many ways to make the road sizzle. On a hot day the road sizzles all by itself. You can also make the road sizzle by driving the car very fast. But that will probably be illegal so it isn't really an option to make the road sizzle. Another option to make the road sizzle is to drive a car that has hot and sizzling style. Car manufacturers have to cater to the demands of all types of customers. There is a wide range of them. At one end of the spectrum there are buyers who want every item in their car to be outstanding. There are others who are on a budget and who are satisfied if there car has basic amenities and facilities and is safe. Manufacturers meet their demand as well. It is only those vehicles that are truly tough and rugged that are able to sustain a tough and rugged image for a long period of time. If a vehicle looks tough and but fails to perform in challenging conditions the tough looks quickly go away and the vehicle in spite of the tough styling looks weak and unreliable. Why is it that there is more perceived excitement in a new car and not so much in an old car? Surely some of the new cars will turn out to be dull performers and some old cars still have a lot of zing left. Pontiac Grand Prix has been known all along as a luxury car. What are the attributes of a luxury car? These are large size, powerful engine, grand looks, high on style and interiors. Large size is, however, a vague term. It is not that larger it is it will qualify to be more luxurious. It has got to be of a convenient size that is also easy to handle. As time moves on requirements and expectations of customers of cars change. This leads to corresponding changes in the priorities of car manufacturers. The performance, ease in handling, safety considerations have always been the main parameters for judging a car. Expert Author: Terry Metcalfe | Summary Any auto sales training instructor can tell you that a customer already knows what they want before they ever hit the lot. There are five things that they need answered before they actually purchase a car and they look to you as their salesman to answer these questions. Car manufacturers acquire a reputation. Which of course is great for them because good reputations are difficult to build. However after a while even a good reputation can be a bit if a drag as it fixes the image of a company and associates it only with a particular category of products. Dodge Stratus is a mid-size, mid-priced vehicle. It is offered in two models - sedan and coupe. There is a lot of dissimilarity in the two models. Actually, they have been inspired by two different makes of vehicles. Yet, there are common features. Both of them have a spacious interior. Both of them are known for easy handling. Their sporting look is a plus point, which is normally not seen in vehicles of this price range. There is an option of 2.4 liter 147 horsepower engine or 3.0 liter 200 horsepower engine. There is choice of five speed manual transmission or four speed automatic transmission. Versatility is a great achievement while designing a product such as a car. It also makes a lot of business sense since now the car will appeal to a larger share of the market. However versatility also tends to imply a boring function based product which is not likely to be very stylish. It is not right to assume a luxurious product need not be stylish. It is true some style may be reflected in the luxury but style is also reflected in those aspects of a car which are not directly related to its luxuriousness. A luxurious style has to be achieved independently of adding luxury features. It may be a debatable point that whether a car which has an appeal for the younger generation, will also appeal to the elders. However, the issue is irrelevant so far as Toyota Corolla is concerned. It is a great design achievement when a family sedan can have a sporty feel in its performance and looks. Such a car makes it possible to realize ones dreams of driving a sporty car without forsaking the down to earth reality of driving a car that can seat a family comfortably. There are big luxury cars and there are small compact cars. However, some people will like to have something in between. To meet such a demand mid-sized Dodge Avenger was released in the market. It is mid-sized as well as mid-priced. For a mid-sized car it is quite spacious. It looks good. Its handling is easy. A ride in it is smooth and comfortable. It is easy to forget in all the razzle-dazzle of today's glitzy cars that a car is a very personal possession and it says as much about you as do your clothes and hair style. And for the style statement to be a great one your car need not be the most attractive car in the world. It should simply look comfortable, perform efficiently and have some of your attitude and character instilled in it. Just as it is with clothes. One doesn't wear very expensive clothes most of the while but if the clothes look comfortable and fit you well, people will think you have a good taste in clothes. It is not only the stars and sport persons that stage a comeback. Cars do it as well. Dodge station wagon came on the scene about four decades back. After some time station wagons no longer remained a favorite. Their market was overtaken by minivans and SUVs. In the second half of the present decade station wagon staged a comeback in the shape of Dodge Magnum. Let us face it, when we see an extremely attractive car full of features that deliver style, performance and luxury a small desire to own one briefly passes through our mind. And if we are a car enthusiast the desire will not really be quite so small. And when we realize we cannot own one, at least for now, we may think of the owner of the car that lies before us. And we may for an instant wish we had the good fortune or had put in the effort ourselves so that we could own the car now. We may deny it but though we may not be out right jealous we will for a moment covet the car. Some men are advanced in age and bound to customs handed over from generation to generation. Others are young, exuberant, and extravagant. There is a parallel grouping in cars and vehicles. Cadillac which was perceived to be belonging to the former category progressed to the later category by the emergence of Cadillac Escalade.
